Nutrition, Fitness and Beauty Tips From England Captain Stephanie Houghton

Who do we look to for fitness tips and nutritional advice?

The answer is most often showbiz celebrities. Browse through most magazines and you find a new diet from such and such from that show you saw on TV, or a new 4-week fitness plan by the latest reality TV star.

While these are valid articles, there is a chance you might be missing out on getting advice from those who truly known their stuff: our female sports stars.

One such star is England captain Stephanie Houghton who has led England to a lot more success than her male counterparts.

It’s a man world and none more so than in the world of football. Or is it? Stephanie Houghton is making a name for herself and becoming a valuable role model for young women in sport.

In an interview with football magazine Four Four Two the England star talked about an average week in her life including a favourite method to get the right nutrition. Houghton is a big fan of smoothies stating that they are an ideal way to get the right nutrition quickly into the body.

When it comes to exercising and training, women work just as hard as their male counterparts. In a joint interview with Toni Duggan, Houghton told Women’s Health Mag that she makes sure she goes to the gym a few times a week to work on her leg strength in order to avoid injuries. She went on to say how important recovery was and recounted how she has to endure ice baths. Recovery is essential to becoming fitter and healthier.

Often there is a rush to try and get in shape as quickly as possible, especially at the beginning of the year which can quickly lead to a burnout both physically and mentally.

It isn’t all mud and slide tackles for Stephanie Houghton though. In Vogue’s feature on the England team Houghton discussed her beauty regime.

She told the fashion magazine that she moisturises every morning and that when she is playing she wears no make-up. She instead saves the glamming up for her nights off.

The 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada did a lot to bring more attention to the women’s game. England came third and came agonisingly close to reaching the final.

Respected sports journalist Stephen Tudor, (writing for football site Betfair, that focuses on competitions like the Champions League and the World Cup), reported that disaster struck for the Lionesses in the final minutes of their match against Japan when Laura Bassett scored an own goal. England lost the match 2-1 but were able to beat Germany in the playoff match to finish third overall.
