Staying on track when you’re on holiday!


Easter is here and some of you may or may not be going away, staying on track can often be a nightmare, it’s hard enough keeping to a workout schedule when you’re at home but what do you do when you are away?

Well, never fear, help is here! There are a few things you can do and this is what I what I’ve done/will be doing while I’m away:

1. Workout in your hotel

I am very lucky that the hotel I am staying in has a gym with a fair bit of equipment. I plan to visit the gym at least every other day while I’m on my trip to do a short 20 – 30 minute workout. If you’re not staying in a hotel or it doesn’t have a gym, then there are a lot of free workouts available on YouTube, designed with limited space and minimum/no equipment needed. I follow a company called Fitness Blender on YouTube and they have every workout imaginable for every fitness level!

2. Take a local class/visit a gym

If you don’t feel like you are disciplined enough to workout alone or you usually take classes, then search for a class in the area where you are staying. I’ve already identified 4 classes that I want to/may attend by using Google and the postcode of the hotel. This could be the time to try a new class and your body will thank you for the change in workout!

3. Walk Everywhere!

Most people carry smart phones with them nowadays so download an app like My Fitness Pal and log your walks! You’ll be more motivated to move more if you can see how many steps/KMs/Miles you’re clocking up! I have a Fitbit and so it automatically logs how much walking you’re doing and syncs it to my phone.

4. Keep a Food Diary

Even if you are planning to relax your eating while you are away, its still a good idea to keep a log of what you are eating. This will help you to not overindulge so much – I’m staying in the land of the over eaters, one of the top countries with Obesity issues so I am going to be surrounded by temptation! I will be using my Fitbit app to log my food and my activity, I will definitely be trying lots of yummy food but this will help me to stay on track!

You can still enjoy yourself on your holiday, without doing too much damage and undoing all of that great work! Have fun, I know I will be!
